How to Play the Uke with the BAM folk music class

This past week we had a chance to play the Uke in our class. We also began working on our new musical instrument project the "ZooLoo Stick"... Enjoy!

Hand in Hand !

So it has been awhile but here is a video that our Winter First Grade "Folk Music Class" did.
This is a song call Hand in Hand. I was with a group recently where we talked about Hands. We talked about our experience of Hands that help and also Hands that hurt. I am sure you can think of times of experiencing both helping and hurting hands. Part of what we do in our class is to teach our students about the power of music to teach life lessons. In writing our verses for Hand in Hand we celebrated hands that help and how in joining hands we can do even more! Enjoy

Winner Folk Music "The Eggplant" Song

This is huge... for the 4 week session of BAM folk music class this past January we worked on making our own Rain Sticks. We learned about rain sticks and how they were used to bring on "the rain" in native cultures. We painted and glued and tied and filled our rain sticks. You can see they are very cool and very unique! At the same time we practiced singing the Norman Greenbaum's "The Eggplant that ate Chicago." Now we get to see it all put together in a wonderful, joyful, playful production. Thanks for all the help of my co-creator, Yun-Yun Cai, aka the "Yakster" Enjoy!

Our Winter Show at BAM

So our kindergartner Fall Folk Music Class is coming to a close... We have grown so much in just a couple of months. That is how it is with kindergartners, they grow up so fast. Over the last few week we have learned lots of songs, hand motions for many of them. We have made drums, oboes, and shakers. We have learned all the parts of a guitar. And we have become more self assured and ready to take our show public. So that is just what we did this week. We put on a show, along with many of the other after-school classes, for all the world to see. We played our hand made instruments, introduced our songs and sang loud and clear. Yun-Yun and Mr. Karl where so proud of us! Hope you enjoy our singing and playing as well!

BAM Folk Music Class plays some Oboe Jazz

Just today my trusty assistant Yun-Yun and I were talking about how much our kindergartners have grown in just the last 8 weeks. It is amazing how they are taking direction and able to step up and introduce a song. Today we worked on a little Oboe Jazz piece. We think you will be impressed...

Kindergartner's sing The Pie Song

One of my very favorite songs to sing with Kids is The Pie Song. I first heard it in a movie The Waitress. I tell kids... learn this song and if you sing it to your mom or dad, they will never be able to stay mad at you... Our director for the song is Milo and Yun-Yun Yak helps with the choreography... Enjoy
